On arrival in Bandaranaike International airport, you will
be warmly greeted and transferred to the hotel in Colombo.
If time permits, afternoon visit Gangaramaya Temple.

DAY 2 | COLOMBO/KANDY
After your breakfast leave for Kandy for two nights.
En route visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. This is a much
visited and acclaimed botanical garden, which is also good for birds. It is
bounded on three sides by the Mahaveli River, which snakes around the
60-hectare gardens. Before its use as a botanical gardens it had served as a
royal pleasure garden. Peradeniya is the second largest botanical garden in
Asia. It has an orchid house, which botanists should visit. In 1905 an avenue
of palms were planted and now is one of the most photographed places in the
gardens.
Afterwards visit Temple of the Tooth. The Sacred Tooth Relic, housed in
the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is an object of veneration to Buddhists and
the most important sacred relic in the country is. The temple is one of the
most sacred places in the world for Buddhists. From ancient times kings have
kept the Sacred Tooth Relic in their kingdoms as a symbol of power. History
records that the Tooth Relic was first brought to the Island by Prince Dhantha
and Princess Hemamali during the reign of King Kirti Sri Meghavanna (301 - 328
AD). It is a traditional belief that, whoever takes possession of the Tooth
Relic, ruler or invader, has the power to rule the people.

DAY 3 | KANDY
Start your day with a visit to the three of the most ancient
and interesting temples in the central highlands- Embekke, Lankathilake &
Gadaladeniya.
Spend your afternoon at leisure.
Afterwards visit Kandy to experience The Kandy Esala Perahera. The
period July-August (Esala-Nikini in the traditional Sinhalese calendar) is the
Esala Perahera season in Sri Lanka. The Sinhalese term 'perahera' means a train
of musicians, dancers, acrobats and other performers usually accompanied by a
number of elephants parading the streets in celebration of a religious or
secular person or event.

DAY 4| KANDY/SIGIRIYA
After the breakfast leave for Sigiriya. En-route Visit
Dambulla cave temple which is famous for its rock paintings and sculptures. Dambulla is considered as the oldest art gallery of the country. The
paintings found on the rock ceiling shows the influence of Kandyan School of
paintings became prominent in the 18th – 19th century in Sri Lanka.

DAY 5 | SIGIRIYA/POLONNARUWA/MINNERIYA
Morning visit sacred city Polonnaruwa, (A UNESCO World
Heritage Site), the medieval capital of Sri Lanka. From the tenth century AD
the capital of the most powerful kingdom in the island shifted to Polonnaruwa
from Anuradhapura. It was the capital from around 993 AD to 1250 AD. The
greatest king of Polonnaruwa was Parakramabahu I (1153 –1186 AD).
Afternoon visit Minneriya National Park for Elephants.
During September and October, over 300 elephants gather on the receding shores
of the Minneriya Tank. ‘The Gathering’ of Elephants at Minneriya is one of
those awesome spectacles, which should rank alongside better-known wildlife
spectacles such as the migration of wildebeest in Africa.

DAY 6 | SIGIRIYA
Morning visit Sigiriya. (A UNESCO World Heritage site) .The
rock is an inselberg, which dominates the landscape and was both a military
refuge as well as an aesthetic refuge for king who was a patron of the arts.
Initially Sigiriya became world famous for the frescos found on the western
surface of the
rock about 100 miters above the ground level. Ancient
gardens found at the foot of the rock could be considered as the one of the
surviving gardens created with the country in the 5th century AD.
